Weekly Update - January 4th

Happy Friday!! I can't believe it's already 2013!!

It is SO good to see all of your children's smiling faces!

Next week we will be working on the following topics:
ELA: We will start back up with Journeys on Lesson 12. In lesson 12 we will review story structure stew, THICK questions, and different kinds of sentences. We will introduce figurative language, focusing specifically on idioms. Our spelling focus will be on vowel digraphs /ai/ and /ay/. There is a phonics dance/chant that accompanies each of these - be sure to ask your child to do them for you at home! We will continue reading The BFG by Roald Dahl that ties right into our unit on sound.

Math: We will continue spiraling through Saxon working on writing the date using digits, bar graphs, Venn diagrams, and ordering 2 digit numbers. Our next assessment will be Thursday.

Science
We will continue our unit on sound! We will do a "Rockin' Rice" experiment, read Moses goes to the Orchestra, do a water glass experiment, and learn how to make a guitar! Your child should be working on his/her Sound Tic-Tac-Toe project. Projects are due January 16th. There is a copy of the project linked to the documents tab.
