Weekly Update - January 11th

Happy Friday!!

Next week we will be working on the following topics:
ELA: We will continue Journeys working on Lesson 13. In lesson 13 we will review Author's Purpose. We will introduce using a dictionary and quotation marks. Our spelling focus will be on vowel digraphs /ee/ and /ea/. There is a phonics dance/chant that accompanies each of these - be sure to ask your child to do them for you at home! We finished The BFG by Roald Dahl and have started on The Minpins.

Math: We will continue spiraling through Saxon working on problem solving; counting dimes, nickels, and pennies; identifying lines of symmetry and creating symmetrical shapes; and adding 2 digit numbers using dimes and pennies.

Science
We will wrap up our unit on sound! We will watch a Bill Nye video on sound, play a jeopardy review game, have students present their tic-tac-toe projects, and have our Sound Assessment on Friday. Students will learn how to make a guitar and actually create their own! Sound Tic-Tac-Toe projects are due Wednesday, January 16th. There is a copy of the project linked to the documents tab.

A Letter From Mrs. Lamm:
CIS Parents,

As the end of the second quarter approaches, we wanted to make you aware of some upcoming changes. On Monday, January 28th, your child’s class will transition to a new Essential class, Creative Dramatics. I am excited to be able to work with your children in this new adventure! We will be combining music, drama, puppetry, and masks to create a brand new, creative form of theatrical art! It will be so much fun to teach, and fun for the students! We need your help, however. This class will have a $5.00 student fee, which will be used to purchase needed supplies and materials. Please be sure to send this with your child, to be turned in to Mrs. Lamm. In addition, there are a few miscellaneous supplies which you may be able to help us with, as listed below:
Empty toilet paper rolls
Empty small plastic containers with lids (such as margarine tubs, etc.)
Old, used hardback children’s books – small to medium size – it does not matter what condition (they could even be colored in!)

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have! I look forward to working with your child!
Mrs. Debbie Lamm
Music and theater arts teacher
Carolina International School
