Weekly Update - January 18th

Happy Cold and Icy Friday...Looking forward to the sunshine this weekend!

Next week is an extremely short week due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day and two teacher work days.

Monday - No School (in observance of MLK Jr. Day!)

Tuesday - At 9:00 we will have a guest speaker come in and talk to us about Germany. He plays in an Oompah Band! We are excited to hear about him and his music along with learning more about our sister country! After our guest speaker, we will work on our end of the quarter repeated tasks, set new goals, complete our self-report cards, fill out new job applications, and talk about recycling to get ready for our field trip on Wednesday.

Wednesday - Field Trip to Frank Liske Park! Students should wear P.E. uniforms since we will be active and pack a ZERO-WASTE lunch. We will be picking up trash in the park, sorting it into recycling/compost/trash piles, and discussing ways to reduce our carbon footprint - focusing on the 3 R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). After lunch students will be able to decorate Food Lion paper grocery bags with slogans and logos to encourage shoppers to be environmentally aware. On our way back to school we will drop the paper grocery bags off at the Food Lion on 49 - stop in after Wednesday afternoon and ask for paper bags! When we arrive back at school students will journal about their day and how they made a difference by completing one of our four core values: service. We will be sharing our experiences at the February Board of Director's meeting.

Thursday - No School (Teacher Work Day)

Friday - No School (Professional Development Day for Teachers)

A Letter From Mrs. Lamm:
CIS Parents,

As the end of the second quarter approaches, we wanted to make you aware of some upcoming changes. On Monday, January 28th, your child’s class will transition to a new Essential class, Creative Dramatics. I am excited to be able to work with your children in this new adventure! We will be combining music, drama, puppetry, and masks to create a brand new, creative form of theatrical art! It will be so much fun to teach, and fun for the students! We need your help, however. This class will have a $5.00 student fee, which will be used to purchase needed supplies and materials. Please be sure to send this with your child, to be turned in to Mrs. Lamm. In addition, there are a few miscellaneous supplies which you may be able to help us with, as listed below:
Empty toilet paper rolls
Empty small plastic containers with lids (such as margarine tubs, etc.)
Old, used hardback children’s books – small to medium size – it does not matter what condition (they could even be colored in!)

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have! I look forward to working with your child!
Mrs. Debbie Lamm
Music and theater arts teacher
