Weekly News - September 14th

Next week we will be working on the following topics:
ELAWe will learn about author's purpose, making connections with texts, and complete sentences (statements/questions). We will work on spelling long vowels a and i and multiple-meaning words as well. For writing we will introduce what good writers do, focusing on good beginnings. We will continue our Roald Dahl book, The Magic Finger

Math: We will continue spiraling through our Saxon math, focusing specifically on some some more, comparing and ordering objects, the commutative property, and pattern block designs. We will take our first Saxon assessment this Thursday.

Social Studies: We will continue our unit on citizenship and communities. This week we will focus on creating a community map by collaborating in small groups.

Did You Know? Zero Waste lunch is the last Tuesday of every month. This is coming up quickly on Sept. 25th!

Notes from the Principal:
½ Days:  Friday is a half day for students.  If you cannot make it at 12:00 to pick up your child, please call BASP and see if they can take your child.  BASP closes at 4:00.

Mint Hill Madness: September 28-29th
Mint Hill is having a festival.  The Staley family is giving all of their proceeds to CIS and our new school building fund.  If you would like to support our new school building and the Staley family, please purchase a raffle ticket or volunteer.  You could win a new Kindle Fire, Nest Thermostat, or a new AC unit!!!  Tickets range from $5.00-$15.00.  If you would like to purchase some tickets, please email Kim Hoyle at hoylek@ciscomets.com.  Staff will be selling tickets on Monday morning in the middle of upper lot and gravel.  Student council will also be selling tickets in the afternoons between 3:00-3:30.  If you have time to volunteer on Friday or Saturday, please see Kim Hoyle for times.  Please help us build a new school.

Pictures:  September 20th is picture day.  All students must wear a white logo polo with navy bottoms.  Navy bottoms can be pants, skorts, or shorts.  This is not optional!

Gravel Lot Lottery:  We are opening up the gravel lot to any family!  Your family does not need to have a minimum number of students in your carpool.  Tickets will start at $50.00 per ticket.  We are only adding a limited number of spaces, so get your ticket today.  Please stop by the office and see Cathie Elliott. All proceeds will go towards the new school building fund.

Fridays: On Fridays, the teachers have spirit day.  They are allowed to wear jeans and a CIS shirt.  Students are ONLY allowed to wear jeans on the first Friday of the month for casual day.

Family Friend Initiative:  We are working with UNCC, Jill Morin, to help host International students.  UNCC needs families who are willing to spend time with the International students on the weekends or weekdays if you have time.  They do not live with you, they just spend time with your family.  If you are interested, please email Trish Valentino at valntinot@ciscoemts.com.  Thank you for your help.

Parking in Lower Lot:   Please park as close as you can to the other cars when on campus.  We need all the space we can get to park.  After 3:30pm, parents are not allowed to park in the lower lot and then walk to pick up their child.  Please either stay in the line or enter the gravel lot lottery.  It is not fair to other families if you skip the procedures already in place. Thank you.
