Weekly Update

Wow! What a WONDERFUL first week of school. I am super excited for what the rest of the year holds...

Next week we will be working on the following topics:
Language ArtsWe will continue learning the procedures for the Daily 5, learn about subjects and predicates, sequence of events, and have our first spelling list. We will also read an autobiography of Roald Dahl, a major author we will read and study about this year. We started reading The Twits this week. Next up will be The Magic Finger

Writing: To help introduce Roald Dahl we will be doing a Thinking Maps unit all week. We will also continue to "Work on Writing" from the Daily 5 and prepare for Writer's Workshop.

Math: We will start our Saxon Math program next week. This program will spiral through topics throughout the year. Instead of doing units of math and only spending a week or two on each topic, we will be introducing a new topic each week while spiraling through previous learned material.

Social Studies: We will start our unit on citizenship and communities. During this unit, students will apply for classroom jobs and create their own communities within groups. We will talk about neighborhoods, communities, transportation, laws, citizenship, interviews, communication, and more!

  • Gravel LotTuesday, Sept. 4th, afternoon, lottery winners can start using the gravel lot for student pick-up. All gravel lot signs went home with the eldest child in the carpool. If you have more than one person picking them up, please let us know you need another sign. You must have 3 or more students in the car when loading each day, not 2 or less. You need to go to the upper lot that day. Your colored sign needs to be in the window, so our staff can direct you to the gravel lot. If your sign is not in the window, you will be directed to the upper lot. You must have your sign. Please listen to our staff and do not use the exit lane and/or ignore their direction. This will cause an accident. Tell everyone in your carpool “who” will be picking them up and what kind of car they will drive. All cars need to be there and gone by 3:50. This is why it is the considered express…in and out.
  • Gravel Lot Drop OffIn the morning, the youngest child in the car needs to be a 5th-10th grader in order to use the gravel lot. All other students need to be dropped off in the upper parking lot. Thank you for your help.
  • PunctualityIn the morning, the upper lot will close at 8:43. Elementary starts class at 8:45. Students need to arrive at school before then in order to be in class on time. Starting Tuesday, we will start adhering to the tardy policy on pg. 24 in the handbook. If you are late picking up your child, they will go to the after school program and you will be charged $10.00 for every 15 minutes you are late.
  • Uniform IssuesWe are working out the uniform issues with Brand RPM. If you have not received your order from the summer time, please email Abby Bottoms and let her know.
  • Parent WikiIf you have not been invited to join our Parent Wiki, please send Ms. Nelmes your email.  Go to <iframe src="https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/embeddedform?formkey=dFZJWmRDUVRmZ0FlOWluSXVURGN2SGc6MQ" width="760" height="653" frameborder="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0">Loading...</iframe>. Copy this address in your URL and then type in your email address. She will add you to the invite list when she gets it.
